2010-2011 Chattanooga Cherokees Tryouts

The Chattanooga Cherokees Baseball Club will be having our 2010-2011 season tryouts at the end of the month. July 31st will be the 14u-16u tryouts. August 1st will be the 17u-18u players. This will be a tryout for the fall and the upcoming summer.

The current 16u team has competed at these locations thus far: Birmingham Southern, Samford, USC, Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, East Cobb, Southern Poly Univ., Covenant College, and Ft. Myers, Fl.

The current 18u team has competed at these locations: Trevecca Univ., MTSU, Furman, Presbyterian College, Covenant College, East Cobb, Troy, Ft. Myers, Fl, and Alabama.

We will be competing in showcase tournaments in the summer with top rated tournaments such as the WWBA National Championship and the BCS Finals. Those are the #2 and #3 most scouted tournaments in the country. In the fall, we will be working to compete in the WWBA Underclass and the WWBA World Championships which are the #1 most scouted tournaments in the country.

The tryout is free, but we would like to have each player contact us to let us know you are coming. I hope to see all of you soon.

Cherokees Weekday Game Summary

The Chattanooga Cherokees and the Chattanooga Baseball Club came together for an organizational double-header with the 16u team playing before the 18u team. In the first game, the 16u Chattanooga Cherokees lost 8-5 with the tying run at the plate in the last inning. Justin Garmany had 2 hits to lead the Cherokees. Chance Mancuso started the game on the mound and threw well. John Shrader came into the game to pitch in the 5th and 6th to shut the Chattanooga Baseball Club down. He finished with 4 k's. The 16u Cherokees will be playing down in Birmingham starting Thursday. They will be competing in the Samford Showcase.

In Game 2, the 18u Chattanooga Cherokees beat the Chattanooga Baseball Club 7-3. Quade Campbell started the game pitching the first two innings (No hits, no walks, 3 k's). Caleb Cass pitched the 3rd and 4th inning (2 hits, 2 walks, 2 k's, 1 ER). Adam Knudtson pitched the 5th doing well (No hits, 1 walk, 0 ER). Jeb Scoggins pitched the final two innings and also pitched well (2 hits, 2 walks, 2 ER). Offensively, in the first inning, Brady Reed gave the Cherokees an early 1-0 lead with an rbi single. In the 4th, Derek Murray came through with a 2 out bases clearing triple to put the Cherokees up 6-0. The Cherokees then cruised into victory 7-3. Derek Murray finished 1 for 3 with a triple, 3 rbi, and a run. Zach Zarzour had a hit, 1 SB, and 2 runs. Brady Reed finished 1 for 2 with an rbi, 2 SB, and a run. Jeb Scoggins went 1 for 2 with a stolen base. Andrew Mayfield and Lynus Ryan each had singles. The 18u Cherokees will have the weekend off. They start play back next Tuesday down in the 18u WWBA National Championship in Marietta, GA. They will be the only Chattanooga team competing in the largest and most scouted tournament in the country.

Furman Showcase

The 18U Chattanooga Cherokees went 3-1 in the Furman Wood bat Showcase this past weekend. In game one vs. Charlotte Megastars, Brady Reed and Derek Murray helped lead the Cherokees to a 2-1 victory. With 1 out and Zach Zarzour on 2nd, Reed came threw with a game tying double. With 2 outs, Derek Murray came threw with a game winning rbi single to cap the game off. Quade Campbell pitched a complete game allowing 5 hits, 1 walk, 7 k's, and 0 ER.

Game 2 was very similar winning 2-1. Jeb Scoggins pitched a complete game allowing 3 hits, 2 walks, 12 k's and 1 ER for a 2-1 win.

Game 3, the 18u Cherokees lost to the Carolina Spikes Select 6-5. After scoring 4 runs in the first, the Cherokees bats cooled off. Kenzie Goins went 3 for 3 a double, 2 runs, and an rbi.

Game 4, the Cherokees bats went from cold to hot. The 18U Cherokees beat the Upstate Mavericks (Top Baseball Organization), 13-3 in the finale. Alex Lyttleton pitched a compete game allowing 2 hits and 0 ER (3 R). Dave Kosinski hit a 3 run home run in the top of the first to put the Cherokees in the lead that they would hold. Kosinski then delivered in the 3rd with his second home run of the game. Kosinski finished the game 2-4 with 2 home runs and 5 rbi. Brady Reed went 2-2 with a double, 2 runs, and a walk. Zach Zarzour went 2-4.

The Player of the Weekend was Derek Murray. Murray went 4-8 with a triple, 3 rbi and 3 walks in the showcase. He delivered with the game winning walk off hit in the first game to get the Cherokees going.

The Pitcher of the Weekend will once again have two guys awarded. Quade Campbell pitched 7 innings allowing 0 ER, 5 hits, 1 walk, and 7 k's. Jeb Scoggins produced a masterful performance going 7 innings with 1 ER, 3 hits, 2 walks, and 12 k's. Scoggins during the game struck out 6 batters in a row.

Next week, the 18U Cherokees will play a 3 game series with the Chattanooga Baseball Club. Game 1 is set for Tuesday at Covenant College at 6:15 pm. Then Next Saturday, they will square off again for an afternoon double-header. All games will be wooden bats.

16U College of Charleston 6-11-13

The 16U Chattanooga Cherokees competed down in Charelston, South Carolina at Charleston Southern and the College of Charelston. They came back going 2-2. More details to follow.

Murfreesboro Tournament Details 6-11-13

The 18U Chattanooga Cherokees battled through a limited roster to put up some great games. The Player of the Weekend was Jeb Scoggins. Jeb was 3 for 8 in the tournament with some key hits. He had a .500 OBP for the tournament along with a stolen base. The Pitcher of the Weekend was Caleb Cass. Cass threw 5 scoreless innings to take the victory and the complete game. He allowed 1 hit with no walks and 6 k's.

Chattanooga Cherokees vs. Chattanooga Baseball Club


The Cherokees will be playing a double-header with the other elite team in the area next Tuesday, June 22nd at Covenant College. The 16U Chattanooga Cherokees will be playing the 16U Chattanooga Baseball Club at 4 PM Eastern. The 18U Chattanooga Cherokees will be playing against the 17U Chattanooga Baseball Club starting right after the 16U game. Both games will be wooden bat games to allow for our players to get ready for the upcoming wood bat tournaments. The game is free to come watch, so I hope to see a large crowd from the area. Go Kees'!!!

Tennessee vs. Georgia All-Star Game

Brady Reed was the Tennessee MVP of the game. With 2 outs, Brady drilled a ball to the centerfield wall for a 2-run double which gave Team Tennessee their first lead of the game at 7-6.

Also in the game, a couple of our pitchers did well. Quade Campbell threw 2 scoreless innings allowing no hits, 1 K, and 1 walk. Caleb Cass threw 1 shutout inning allowing no hits and 1 walk.

Team Tennessee came away with a 12-8 win. Congratulations to all our Cherokees seniors.

Best of Preps

Congratulations to some of our 18U players for making 1st team and 2nd team Best of Preps. These are the first team players: Caleb Cass, Andrew Mayfield, and Zach Zarzour.

Caleb Cass (Lookout Valley Senior Pitcher) was 10-2 with a save and a 2.65 ERA. He also hit 10 homers and drove in 36 runs to help the Yellow Jackets to the District 6-A crown.

Andrew Mayfield (Ooltewah Senior Outfielder) hit .376 with 21 extra-base hits, 32 runs and 27 RBI. Andrew has commited to Chattanooga State.

Zach Zarzour (Ooltewah Senior SS) hit .315 with 29 runs and 15 stolen bases to lead the Owls to the regular season District 5-AAA champions. He too has commited to Chattanooga State.

These Cherokees made the second team Best of Preps for 2010: Aaron O'Dell, Brady Reed, Derek Murray, and Kenzie Goins.

Nashville Showcase

The 18U Chattanooga Cherokees played a very competitive schedule this past weekend and came back with valuable game experience. They competed against some of the best teams in the nation: Excel Blue Wave(Honorable Mention rank), St. Louis Gamers, and the 17U East Cobb Braves(#2 nationally ranked 18U). The Cherokees played a tough Braves team and came up a couple feet short of tying the nationally ranked number 2 team on Derek Murray's RBI Double off the wall. They lost 9-8.

Co-Pitcher of the week goes to Alex Lyttleton (2011 East Hamilton LHP) and Ryan McCormack (2010 Ridgeland MIF/RHP). Alex pitched 6 inn in relief allowing 4 hits and 0 walks with 0 ER. His opposing BA was .160. Ryan pitched 4 strong inn in relief against the East Cobb Braves allowing 2 hits, 0 walks, and 0 ER. He had a .143 opposing batting average for the weekend.

The 18U team batted a strong .354 for the weekend. Zack Zarzour (2010 Ooltewah SS) wwas the offensive player of the week batting .555 for the tournament with 2 doubles, 2 triples, 5 runs, and a walk. He had a hit in every game this weekend.

The 18U "Kees" will be in action again this Thursday in Murfreesboro.

Birmingham Southern Results

After the first two games were completed and in result going 1-1, the rain prevented the 16U Cherokees to play anymore. Chance Mancuso was the pitcher of the week getting a ND going 5 inn allowing 3 ER. He was cruising in the second game until the 5th. Trey O'Daniel was the offensive player of the week having some clutch hits and RBI for the Cherokees.

Birmingham Southern

The 16U Birmingham Southern Tournament schedule was released yesterday. We will be competing against some top teams in tournament. The 18U team will be off this week preparing for their first tournament in Nashville the following weekend.

Weekday Game Announced




The 16U and 18U Chattanooga Cherokees will be playing the 16U and 17U Chattanooga Baseball Club as a part of some weekday games. The games are scheduled for June 22nd. The location will be determined at a later time as well as the time of the start. I hope to see all of you out there supporting our Cherokees.

First Practice Of The Summer

We will be having our first of about 8 practices Thursday the 20th of May. It will be at Ft. Payne High school at 6 central (7 eastern). I'll see you all there!!!

18U And 16U Cherokees Rosters Are Set



Our 16U and 18U Chattanooga Cherokees Baseball Clubs are ready for action. This season has the two nationally recognized teams traveling across the southeast to compete in highly rated showcase tournaments and world championships such as the WWBA National Championship and the BCS Finals.
