Furman Showcase

The 18U Chattanooga Cherokees went 3-1 in the Furman Wood bat Showcase this past weekend. In game one vs. Charlotte Megastars, Brady Reed and Derek Murray helped lead the Cherokees to a 2-1 victory. With 1 out and Zach Zarzour on 2nd, Reed came threw with a game tying double. With 2 outs, Derek Murray came threw with a game winning rbi single to cap the game off. Quade Campbell pitched a complete game allowing 5 hits, 1 walk, 7 k's, and 0 ER.

Game 2 was very similar winning 2-1. Jeb Scoggins pitched a complete game allowing 3 hits, 2 walks, 12 k's and 1 ER for a 2-1 win.

Game 3, the 18u Cherokees lost to the Carolina Spikes Select 6-5. After scoring 4 runs in the first, the Cherokees bats cooled off. Kenzie Goins went 3 for 3 a double, 2 runs, and an rbi.

Game 4, the Cherokees bats went from cold to hot. The 18U Cherokees beat the Upstate Mavericks (Top Baseball Organization), 13-3 in the finale. Alex Lyttleton pitched a compete game allowing 2 hits and 0 ER (3 R). Dave Kosinski hit a 3 run home run in the top of the first to put the Cherokees in the lead that they would hold. Kosinski then delivered in the 3rd with his second home run of the game. Kosinski finished the game 2-4 with 2 home runs and 5 rbi. Brady Reed went 2-2 with a double, 2 runs, and a walk. Zach Zarzour went 2-4.

The Player of the Weekend was Derek Murray. Murray went 4-8 with a triple, 3 rbi and 3 walks in the showcase. He delivered with the game winning walk off hit in the first game to get the Cherokees going.

The Pitcher of the Weekend will once again have two guys awarded. Quade Campbell pitched 7 innings allowing 0 ER, 5 hits, 1 walk, and 7 k's. Jeb Scoggins produced a masterful performance going 7 innings with 1 ER, 3 hits, 2 walks, and 12 k's. Scoggins during the game struck out 6 batters in a row.

Next week, the 18U Cherokees will play a 3 game series with the Chattanooga Baseball Club. Game 1 is set for Tuesday at Covenant College at 6:15 pm. Then Next Saturday, they will square off again for an afternoon double-header. All games will be wooden bats.
